1939
Wakefields opened for business on 3 September 1939, on the eve of World War 2.

1998
In 1998, the decision was made to separate the residential sales and property management arms of the Company as the portfolio of the buildings under management and the letting activities had grown to the extent that it had become clear that a dedicated property management company was required. The result of this decision was the formation of Wakefields Property Management (Pty) Ltd.

2009
In August 2009, Wakefields Property Management purchased two active and well run property management companies on the Kwazulu Natal north coast, one at Umhlanga Rocks (formerly Northshore Properties Trust) and one at Ballito (formerly CE  Property Services Trust). Although some of the accounting and administrative functions of the schemes managed by the offices have been centralised at our Durban office, the day-to-day management of the complexes continues to be handled by the local personnel.

2012
In September 2012 the company acquired the entire portfolio of properties managed by CorPro, a Durban based property management company. To aid with continuity many of the staff of CorPro were retained, but the administration of the properties was merged with the existing Wakefields Property Management systems.

2018
In March 2018 the company acquired the entire portfolio of properties managed by Small Property Admin (SPA).
